Natural Milos

This crown set is literally one of a kind. For awhile now I've been offering the Gold Milos and Silver Milos crowns. Just recently I had to swap the larger leaf component out of the Milos crowns for another, as I ran out of the original leaf. This original leaf has always been one of my favorites---and turned out it was a vintage copper leaf...I had all that existed.

When I saw that I was getting really low on these leaves, well, I had to act on an artistic drive. I've been wanting to make a set of really full Milos style crowns...and I wanted to heat-treat each leaf to bring out the natural beauty of the copper and brass (the little wheat-like stalks are brass). So I did just that. I confiscated all that was left and turned them into a really amazing crown set.

These crowns feature the same split-base detail as the Milos crowns. And so their fit is just as perfect.

Each and every leaf was patiently heated, cooled, and then heated again to get the natural reds, blues, greens, oranges and golden hues of all the alloys of the copper to pop out.

I buffed the solid copper crown base and the back side of each leaf to a beautiful satin sheen. The whole crown was cleaned and then coated in a clear satin enamel. This enamel finish adds the perfect amount of shine to the crowns. It will also protect the crowns from tarnishing...so the heat treated finish will remain just a beautiful for generations.

The overall look of this crown set is a bit unique: it's a combination of a contemporary/industrial look & an old world style.

The contemporary look comes into play because the structural details of these crowns are visible. So you do see the solder where the leaves are attached to the crown base. and there are a few solder spots on the leaves (but everything has been filed, smoothed, and cleaned up as much as possible). But the heat treated finish gives such a rich, aged look to the crowns! So it's a really neat combination.
